The Guest of Honour pays homage to a famous racing Bentley and its drivers, Benjafield and Davis. The car, known as ‘Old No. 7’, won at Le Mans in 1927 and the sculpture focuses on the moment when Benjafield narrowly avoided colliding with his team mates, as the rest of the Bentley team had crashed ahead of him. The Savoy Hotel was the location for a renowned celebration dinner, organised by Autocar magazine. Old No. 7 was ‘The Guest of Honour’. The Bentley Boys sat down to an eleven course banquet around a horseshoe-shaped table with the car in pride of place.
